Investing in our community
To ensure we’re meeting the needs of our growing communities, we are continually reinvesting in our people and our facilities. Annually, HCA Midwest Health has a total contribution of almost $1.4 billion in the local economy through payroll and benefits; federal, state and local taxes; uncompensated care provided; community partnerships; and capital investments.
Below is a brief sample of recent and planned capital investments across our region, which totaled more than $116 million last year. We are committed to providing our caregivers with the latest technologies and our patients with modern, healing environments.

Research Medical Center
Research College of Nursing Expansion
Research College of Nursing Expansion – HCA Midwest Health is helping address the regional nursing shortage by investing $34.5 million to expand the Research College of Nursing and create an innovative Center for Clinical Advancement. The expanded campus is expected to open in late 2024.
Hospital Enhancements
Research Medical Center invested $7.6 million to the renovations of several areas including:
- Blood Cancer Center Expansion: The Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at Research Medical Center expanded their blood cancer clinic. The expansion increased the initial space from 6K sq. ft. to 12K sq. ft. of clinical and patient care space, which doubled patient examination rooms, expanded infusion care chairs from eight to 19, two private procedure rooms and more natural outside light for patients to benefit from.
- OPPR Cardiovascular Expansion: Completion of a dedicated cardiovascular pre- and post-procedure area (CVPR). This 14-bed unit will focus on cardio procedures and have cardiac nurses caring for patients.
- Conference Rooms: Improved current conference room areas with expanded 1 North Conference room and dedicated boardroom with enhanced technology package, equipment and furniture.
Facility Improvements
Research Medical Center is investing $5.4 million for such facility improvements as new roofing, a building automation system and a new parking garage fire suppression system.
Cardiovascular Clinic Renovations
A $2.2 million renovation is underway to enhance the space serving HCA Midwest Physicians’ Midwest Heart and Vascular Specialists and Kansas City Heart Rhythm Institute clinics at Research Medical Center. The space will also support the facility’s structural heart program.
Electronic Medical Record Enhancements
An $800,000 investment is being made to implement the Transchart EMR to support patients in Research Medical Center’s kidney and pancreas transplant programs.
Electrophysiology Lab
Research Medical Center is investing $1.8 million to replace one of its two EP labs. This upgrade will allow further growth of the program and to accommodate multiple physicians working on the unit on the same day.
Nursing Bedside Equipment
Research Medical Center last year spent more than $420,000 on new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and time to do their best work, increase accessibility and improve workflow. Equipment purchased included EKG machines, vein finders, NOEL simulators, Pyxis equipment to improve medication accessibility, scales and blanket warmers, among other items.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center
Women’s Services Renovations
Overland Park Regional Medical Center will enhance its women’s services with a $17 million renovation that will provide new, state-of-the-art antepartum, labor and delivery and postpartum suites.
Cardiac Specialty Unit/Cardiovascular ICU
A $3.5 million investment in Overland Park Regional Medical Center’s second-floor tower, this project included a 26-bed Cardiac Specialty Unit and a 10-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, where highly specialized teams of cardiac experts provide care to post-operative and critically ill patients with cardiac, thoracic and vascular issues.
Orthopedic and Spine Specialty Unit
The addition of a new $15 million Orthopedic and Spine Specialty Unit at Overland Park Regional Medical Center features 32 patient beds, a new gym and two nurses stations.
Robotic Surgery
Overland Park Medical Center last year invested $2.5 million in its fourth DaVinci robotic surgery system, increasing its capacity to provide the latest in minimally invasive surgery options.
Electrophysiology Lab
Overland Park Regional Medical Center is adding a third EP lab later this year. This will be the first hospital in the country to double its capacity for robotic cardiac ablation with two Stereotaxis systems for patients receiving minimally invasive cardiac ablation procedures.
Surgery
Overland Park Regional Medical Center will soon debut a new $5.9 million hybrid operating room to enhance surgeons' capabilities in treating complex neurological and vascular cases that allow for minimally invasive techniques which benefits patients.
Opportunity NOW
Overland Park Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center have committed $50,000 to the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce’s Opportunity NOW capital campaign intended to strengthen the region’s talent pipeline and enhance economic and job growth.

Overland Park Regional Medical Center last year spent nearly $500,000 on new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and time to do their best work.
Centerpoint Medical Center
Enhanced Imaging
Centerpoint Medical Center has invested more than $2.4 million in new and enhanced imaging equipment to help diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. Recent additions include new portable X-ray machines with AI software that helps caregivers more quickly identify potential issues and new cardiac and oncology PET CT equipment that provides better image quality and more accurate diagnoses. New oncology PET CT equipment includes specific software to help decrease time of treatment.
Nursing Bedside Equipment
Centerpoint Medical Center recently spent $2 million dollars on new beds that will help staff more safely transfer patients for procedures and relocation. Along with these new beds, the facility has invested nearly $380,000 in new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and time to do their best work. Equipment purchased included new recliners, bladder scanners, transport monitors, EKG carts and ventilators, among other items.
Orthopedic Surgery
Centerpoint Medical Center has invested $1.5 million in a new orthopedic spine robotic surgery platform designed to improve and optimize patient care by combining the latest advancements in robotics and navigation. The technology combines a rigid robotic arm and full navigation capabilities into one adaptable platform for accurate alignment in spine surgery.
Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute
Centerpoint Medical Center recently invested more than $1 million dollars to increase infusion capacity and patient comfort and experience at its Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute clinic. The investment helped make more efficient use of the space for patients and staff.
Gastrointestinal Services
Centerpoint Medical Center recently invested in software that uses artificial intelligence to aid doctors in polyp detection during colorectal cancer screenings. Additionally, the hospital purchased specialized endoscopy storage cabinets that enhance patient safety by lowering the chance of cross contamination and reducing infection risks.
Menorah Medical Center
HCA Midwest Health Medical Plaza at Corbin Park
A new, $12 million medical plaza will open in 2023 providing new space and convenient access to Family Health Medical Group and Town Plaza Women’s Care. The facility will also offer specialty clinic space to accommodate specialists on a rotating basis. The new medical plaza is adjacent to HCA Midwest Health’s CareNow Urgent Care – Corbin Park clinic.
Women’s Center at Menorah
A $4 million renovation at Menorah Medical Center will enhance its labor and delivery space by providing three dedicated triage rooms, seven private NICU rooms and a dedicated women’s group offering care in a more boutique-like setting for mothers and babies. The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2023.
Surgery
In early 2023, Menorah Medical Center debuted a new $4 million hybrid operating room to enhance surgeons' capabilities in treating complex neurological and vascular cases that allow for minimally invasive techniques which benefits patients.
Prairie Village Clinics
Three physician clinics – Town Plaza Family Medicine, Town Plaza Concierge Medicine and Town Plaza Women’s Health – have opened new locations at the Shops of Prairie Village, providing convenient access to healthcare to these communities. These practices join a new CareNow Urgent Care clinic, which also recently opened at this location.

Opportunity NOW

Lee’s Summit Medical Center
Surgery Center of Lee’s Summit
HCA Midwest Health will soon break ground on a new, $11 million ambulatory surgery center. The Surgery Center of Lee’s Summit will bring additional specialized surgical services to the community.
Intensive Care Unit Expansion
Lee’s Summit Medical Center has expanded its intensive care unit to better care for the community’s sickest patients. The $6 million expansion has added eight additional beds, bringing the unit’s total to 18.
Robotic Surgery
Lee’s Summit Medical Center recently invested $2.5 million in its fourth robotic surgical system, creating additional capacity for minimally invasive surgical options. This year, the hospital completed its 3,000th robotic surgery case.
CareNow Urgent Care
CareNow Urgent Care has opened a second facility in Lee’s Summit, offering an additional location to provide convenient care for non-life-threatening issues.
Nursing Bedside Equipment
Lee’s Summit Medical Center invested nearly $600,000 over the last two years on new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and equipment needed to provide patients with the highest quality care. Equipment purchased includes new beds, bladder scanners, stretchers, vein finders and scales, among other items.
Belton Regional Medical Center
Intensive Care Unit Expansion
Belton Regional Medical Center recently expanded its intensive care unit to better care for the community’s sickest patients. The $16 million expansion includes 14 beds in large rooms, each with private bathrooms and showers.
Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute
Belton Regional Medical Center is expanding its Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute to increase infusion capacity and patient comfort and experience. The $985,000 investment will be adding 5,700 square feet and three new infusion spaces, for a total of 11 infusion spaces.
Lab Expansion
Belton Regional Medical Center completed a $129,000 expansion to its laboratory department to include additional work space and a large break room for colleagues.

Belton Regional Medical Center last year spent more than $95,000 on new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and time to do their best work.
Lafayette Regional Health Center
Cafeteria and Dietary Expansion
Lafayette Regional Health Center recently completed a full remodel of its cafeteria and dining area. This $1.4 million renovation will provide our patients, staff members and community members a clean and state-of-the-art dining experience.
Respiratory Care
Lafayette Regional Health Center broke ground in April on a new $800,000 bulk oxygen storage tank and its installation. This project will allow for the facility to hold more oxygen and treat higher acuity patients.
Heating and Cooling
Lafayette Regional Health Center recently completed a $1.3 million chiller replacement. In May, we will begin a $1.9 million boiler upgrade. These upgrades to the heating and cooling systems will allow for improved temperature control and a better patient experience.

Lafayette Regional Health Center spent almost $145,000 over the past few years on new and updated equipment specifically requested by bedside nurses to help ensure they have the tools and time to do their best work.
